art > Portrait of a Super Predator

Super Predator is a term coined in the 1990’s used to describe Black teenagers as overly violent as a means of justifying “tough on crime” policies during the War on Drugs. In this series, the paintings act as portraits of friends and families (children at the time) who were given the label of Super Predator, hence the first half of each title. The second half which is culturally specific is meant to humanize the figures.
